EDWARD IS SOLD SUBJECT TO SURVEY.
Edward is a 50ft (originally 42ft) Les Allen port holed classic Tug built in 1991 and powered by a rare Kromhout Gardner 2LS built in 1935 and fully reconditioned and installed by Tony Redshaw in 2012 this includes gear box, prop shaft, stern gland and propeller. The stretch was carried out by Roger Farrington at Bottom Lock, Braunston in 2012. At the same time as the stretch another 6mm base plate was added to the base plate making a total base plate thickness of 12mm. A new gas locker was also constructed on the tug deck this allows extra storage in original front gas locker. And an extra storage locker was constructed above the water tank in the void on the front tug deck. A hinged weed hatch inspection plate was constructed on the rear deck.
The internal refit consisted of taking everything back to a bare shell before starting again. From the stern is a traditionally decorated Boatman's Cabin fitted by M G Boat fitters. The Hurricane boiler is housed in here under the bed box. A Premier solid fuel stove is also installed in here.
Into the engine room where the Kromhout Gardner engine sits with a day tank along with the domestic battery bank (4 x 180 ah) and 1 engine starter battery. Both with their own chargers (12v and 240v). A 3 kw Sterling Pure Sine wave Inverter charger is also in here along with a calorifier under deck board. The water can be heated by engine, Hurricane boiler or Immersion heater. 2 side doors one with lift up hatch are also in the engine room/
Into the walk through bathroom, quadrant shower, Thetford cassette toilet with ceramic bowl, ceramic hand basin with mirror fronted bathroom cabinet above and 2 x hanging wardrobes. A 240v hair dryer is wall mounted above the toilet. A full length mirror is mounted on the back of the galley/bathroom door.
Into the galley/saloon side doors above stainless steel sink, 12v Shoreline fridge, Brand new Thetford Caprice Mk 3 gas cooker. Standard kitchen units with drawers and pull out wire storage baskets. Water pump is fitted in kitchen units. Hobbit solid fuel stove is in the saloon along with a recycled book case/TV stand and recycled drop leaf table. 2 x wall cupboards are mounted either side of entrance steps 2 x storage cupboards under wall cupboards. There is a 12v DAB JVC car radio/CD player and speakers in the saloon.
Insulation is a mix of polystyrene and King span sheets.
14mm Wooden bamboo flooring through saloon, kitchen and bathroom on top of 18mm marine ply boards. Aluminium chequer plate on floor in engine room and rustic floorboards on boatman's cabin floor.
Heating is via Fin Rads throughout plus Radiator and plinth heater (under front entrance steps in saloon) powered from the Hurricane diesel boiler. Solid fuel stoves in Boatman's cabin and Saloon.
Water is from a large galvanised water tank located under the front tug deck with a level gauge fitted in the saloon.
Electrics, there is a 240v ring main with sockets throughout Edward, shoreline entry sockets at either end with selector switch for this in the engine room, there is also a dedicated socket for a portable generator in the engine room, there are various 12v sockets throughout the boat. 12v LED lighting is throughout the boat with 1 x 12v up lighter lamp stand and 1 x 240v up lighter lamp stand.
Exterior paintwork by Canal Transport Services (CTS) Norton Cannes. The roof, front and rear decks and tunnel bands have been repainted in August 2020.
The diesel tank is located under the floor in the boatman's cabin.
Additional equipment 4 x fire extinguishers, 1 x fire blanket, 1 x LPG alarm,2 x Co2 alarms and 2 x smoke detectors.
We have managed Edwards conversion from 42ft to 50ft throughout so have taken many photos during the refit including all relevant paperwork which will be included with the sale.

Edward started off life as a 42' tug called Allen then its name was changed to Dudley still at 42' then it had a complete refit taking it back to a bare shell and extending it to 50'. Please see the following pictures of its reconstruction and refit.

Kromhout Gardner 2LW(LS) - Year of Manufacture 1935
Gardner 2LW (LS). 28hp @1300rpm, this engine type was built under licence from L Gardner & Sons by Kromhout Motoren Fabriek in Holland. This particular engine is a Gardner 2LW with the added feature that it is a true ships diesel engine (scheepsdiesel) with split crankcase specifically designed for marine use to allow all maintenance to be carried out from above. Similar crankcase design to that of the Gardner L2 series engines. This engine was completed with 12v electric start and New PRM 260, 2:1 ratio gearbox.
